    Hello Dr. Jackson,
You are an inspiration and I always look forward to your trainings, workshops, and now videos. I am a K-12 Reading Program Specialist in Marion County, FL and will be attending your DI workshops on April 28th and 29th. I just viewed your video “Overcoming Motivational Barriers” and found it extremely beneficial. One concern and issue I hear from teachers is that their students come from very “chaotic” homes. Many students have parents who are incarcerated or out of the home for other reasons. Many students do not have meals when they are not in school. Therefore, some teachers state that the students are “unmotivated” because of their home life. I know our students face many struggles, however, we have to focus on the time we have with them and find a way to encourage and motivate them in our classrooms. Is a “chaotic” home life an institutional, Internal, Interpersonal, or Instructional barrier, or a combination? I would like to support the teachers and most importantly improve engagement for all students. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day, Michelle Surman – Marion County Public Schools
